The Whalehead Club is a beautifully restored 1920s Art Nouveau mansion located in Corolla, North Carolina. This iconic waterfront estate sits along the banks of the Currituck Sound and offers visitors a glimpse into the opulent past of the Outer Banks.

Originally built as a lavish hunting retreat by Edward and Marie Knight, the Whalehead Club is now a must-see attraction for history buffs, architecture enthusiasts, and nature lovers alike.

At the time the Knights first visited the area for duck hunting excursions, opulent hunt clubs in remote regions were all the rage. So the Knights built their own multi-million dollar hunt club in the small village of Corolla, taking them much of the mid to late 1920s to complete. Close to the Currituck Sound, and featuring endless rooms for their guests to vacation, once complete, the Whalehead Club in Historic Corolla Village became a prime destination for wealthy adventurists.

Explore the mansion's 21,000-square-foot interior, featuring Tiffany-inspired stained glass, original woodwork, and period furnishings. Outside, the scenic grounds provide stunning sunset views. Don't miss a popular photo-op at the picturesque footbridge by the large pond, built circa 1925.

Also at the large pond, visitors will find a boat house, a small dock for launching small boats like a kayak, and a canal that leads out to the sound. There are acres of lawns surrounding the mansion that are ideal for spreading a blanket on a sunny day for a picnic or to enjoy one of the events hosted on site.
