Manteo
The quaint and quiet town of Manteo was incorporated in 1899 and named for Chief Manteo of the Croatan Native American Tribe. Manteo is known for it's beautiful Downtown waterfront area filled with local boutiques, restaurants, & plenty of history to explore and learn. Take a walk out to the Roanoke Marshes Light replica to see how the fishermen of past times navigated the waters by this screwpile lighthouse. Stroll over the bridge to Roanoke Island Festival Park and explore the museum and reenactment areas of the Native Americans and English Settlers that resided on the island. Grab a bite to eat at one of the many delicious and locally owned restaurants. However you choose to spend your day in Manteo, it is bound to be fun & informational.
While visiting Manteo, be sure to visit some of the neighboring towns to experience all that the OBX has to offer!
