When it’s time to hit the sand, the home is just a quick walk from Bittern Beach Access, where you can be soaking up the sun and enjoying the waves in no time. You’ll also be close to Dowdy Park and Tortuga’s Lie, making it easy to enjoy one of Nags Head’s favorite parks, explore the area, and grab a delicious meal nearby.

Beach Access: Head east on Bittern Street.  Cross at the designated crosswalk across NC-12 to reach the beach access.  The Bittern Beach access offers visitors a paved parking lot with outdoor shower and wooden walkway to cross over the dunes.

Our family spent Thanksgiving 2025 at the beach and had a wonderful time! The house was perfect for our extended family, the local park around the corner was a delight, and we found so many fun activities to do during our week. I have stayed at Kookoolamonga three times now and it’s honestly the absolute best location for groups, couples, or if you need some ocean time by yourself. The house is gorgeous: impeccably decorated and lovingly maintained. The location is pretty much unbeatable, just a block from public beach access, within walking distance from a few restaurants, and just minutes drive away from everything the OBX has to offer. The hosts, Mike and Sharon, are another huge plus- they are accommodating, kind, and extremely responsive. Twice now someone from our group has accidentally left an item behind, and they’ve been nice enough to mail it to us. My family, friends, and I felt right at home at Kookoolamonga, and I’m genuinely looking forward to the next trip to my happy place. - Milena V. Chicago, IL

I stayed for a week with my family back in March 2026 (we had 5 adults and 2 kids) My stay was perfect! Everything was as described, we enjoyed all balcony’s, watching the sun rise and set. We used the kitchen everyday to make family styled breakfast! Everything we needed was right there in the kitchen. The rooms are close enough to hear what’s going on, but far enough away to have privacy if needed. We loved the elevator, it made it very easy to move our luggage from the first story car port to the second and third story bedrooms. Although it was too early in the season for the pool to be open, it was warmer than expected during our stay, so the owners sent someone out to open the pool for us to enjoy! Not only is the house great, but the location is great too! The house is just a 4 minute walk to the beach, we walked to the beach everyday. There is a park right down the street that we also walked to, my niece loved it! My husband and I also enjoyed the pickleball courts!! It was a great trip! We enjoyed the local food and shops! We especially loved Surf N Spoon (froyo) located right down the road, we went everyday! Everything was a close drive (5-15 minutes everywhere we went) I will 1000% be staying here next time! -Shelby R. Elyria, OH

Kookoolamonga is my favorite home away from home. I've stayed at this location three separate times. Each time the house was spotless and everything was in perfect working order. Mike and Sharon are incredible hosts who take great pride in this fantastic home. They provide thorough instructions and documentation - and they are quick to respond to any questions. We absolutely loved our stay at Kookoolamonga! This beautiful beach home was the perfect place for a relaxing getaway. The house was comfortable, spacious, and had everything we needed to feel right at home. The location was fantastic, making it easy to enjoy the beach and everything the area has to offer. We especially appreciated the welcoming atmosphere and the thoughtful touches throughout the home. It was the kind of place where you can settle in, relax, and truly enjoy your vacation.
