  • Date: 1/17/2026
  • Starts: 11am

The Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration Committee invites the Dare County community to celebrate the rich legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during a community-wide program.  This year marks the 35th year the celebration has gone on in Dare County.  This year’s celebration will take place on Saturday, January 17, at 11 a.m. at the Roanoke Island Presbyterian Church, (855 US-64 Manteo, N.C. 27954).

This year’s program will be a musical extravaganza with performances by The Echoes of Heritage and Ascencion Music Academy.  This event is open to the public, and light refreshments will be served after the event.

“For African Americans and people of all ethnicities the celebration of Dr. King is a significant occasion.  Dr. King’s leadership during the Civil Rights Movement is a major part of that experience.  35 years ago, this program was started in Dare County because there were no events or celebrations honoring Dr. Kings Legacy.”
