Outer Banks: A Paw-some Destination for You and Your Furry Friend

The Outer Banks is renowned for its pristine beaches, charming towns, and laid-back atmosphere. But did you know it’s also a haven for pet lovers? With its abundance of outdoor spaces and welcoming establishments, the OBX offers a truly unforgettable experience for both you and your furry companion.

Dog-Friendly Dining

One of the best ways to enjoy the Outer Banks with your dog is by indulging in delicious food at a pet-friendly restaurant. Many local eateries have outdoor seating areas where you can savor local cuisine while your pup relaxes at your feet. Some popular options include:

Nags Head:

  1. Blue Moon Beach Grill – Situated in the heart of Nags Head, Blue Moon Beach Grill is a great spot for people and dogs-alike! Dogs are allowed on the porch (weather-permitting) but also in their large fenced back yard!
  2. Surfin’ Spoon – When it is time for some ice cream for both people and dogs, look no further than the Surfin’ Spoon in Nags Head! Located right on the beach road, the Spoon is the perfect spot to mix up some icy self-serve frozen yogurt or try one of the delicious ice cream sammies in a variety of different flavors. Enjoy your snack on one of the outdoor picnic tables with umbrellas to keep you and your dog cool and comfortable. They have pup cups too, (frozen vanilla yogurt topped with a milk bone!) so even the dogs can have an afternoon treat!
  3. Tortugas’ Lie – Located off of the beach road in Nags Head, Tortugas’ Lie is a great option for lunch and dinner and offers outdoor porch seating, perfect for dining with your dogs.

Kitty Hawk:

  1. Shipwrecks Taphouse and Grill – Conveniently located right off of the bypass (Croatan Hwy-158), you’ll find Shipwrecks Taphouse and Grill. Perfect for dog-families, Shipwrecks has a covered outdoor patio and even a special dog menu!
  2. John’s Drive In – For a one-of-a-kind dining experiences on the OBX, be sure to visit Johns during your next Outer Banks Vacation. Situated right across the beach in Kitty Hawk, Johns has been a local and visitor favorite for decades. No indoor seating to be found here, just an old-school drive up restaurant offering favorites such as the famous dolphin boat or chocolate malt. Puppy cups are available too, so don’t leave your pup behind to miss out on the fun!

Duck:

  1. NC Coast Grill & Bar – Situated right on the sound in the Town of Duck, you’ll want to be sure to visit NC Coast Grill & Bar. With sunset views that can’t be beat, take advantage of the outdoor seating options, which are perfect pet families enjoying the evening.
  2. Cravings Steak and Seafood– located right in the heart of Duck, Cravings is a family favorite with food of all types to enjoy. With indoor and outdoor seating available, it is a great spot for families with pets to come and enjoy some local OBX-fare and not have to leave your dog behind. Live entertainment takes place during the summer, so be sure to catch some great music and amazing food!

Corolla:

  1. Corolla Cantina– If you’re looking for some delicious Mexican cuisine all while enjoying the views of the Currituck Lighthouse, make sure to visit Corolla Cantina, located in the Corolla Light shopping center. Corolla Cantina is a causal option and is has the option to eat at one of the covered, outdoor tables, so your dog can join in on the fun too!
  2. Off The Wall Tap House – Off the Wall will become one of favorite stops when visiting Corolla. With a must-see self-serve beer wall, there will be a beer for all tastes and preferences. Off the Wall has a pet-friendly patio outside, but no pets allowed inside, so be sure to keep them with a friend as you go inside to try out the variety of beverages. There is also a food menu that the whole family will enjoy – kids too!
