The Outer Banks of North Carolina offers more than just beautiful beaches and scenic views; it’s also home to a thriving craft beer scene. Local breweries are passionately dedicated to creating high-quality, unique beverages that reflect the character and culture of the region. The OBX offers beer enthusiasts a rich tapestry of flavors and experiences to explore.
Swells’a Brewing, launched in summer 2021, combines a laid-back beach vibe with a dedication to crafting drinkable, balanced beers. Co-owners Brad Fitzgerald and Sam Harriss have created a space that caters to both locals and visitors, featuring live music, local art, and community events. Their upcoming taproom in Duck promises to extend this community-focused experience.
Why not have a beer voted the Best on the Outer Banks, sitting on the deck voted the Best of the Beach, while being served by the bartender voted Best on the Outer Banks? Lost Colony Brewery’s pub is located on the Nags Head Causeway, inches from the calm waters of the Pamlico Sound. The perfect spot to try our award-winning beers!
Michael Cherry and Kathleen McCubbins opened Northern Outer Banks Brewing Company in 2017, bringing the first brewery to Corolla. Michael, a local who trained at Joymongers Brewing Co. and gained insights from the von Trapp Brewing Company, emphasizes quality and tradition in their brews. Opened in August 2023, Whalehead Brewery offers a spacious, welcoming environment perfect for enjoying a craft beer. Owner Christin Crowley, a retired Navy supply officer, has infused her establishment with a commitment to community and quality. The brewery features a self-serve tap wall, a Neapolitan pizza oven, and a focus on fresh, locally brewed beer.
The Brewing Station is more than just a place to grab a drink. It’s a hub of local history and sustainable practices. Born from a concept envisioned by founders Eric Reece and Aubrey Davis while serving in the Peace Corps in Thailand with Tina Mackenzie, this iconic brew pub brings innovative brewing and environmental consciousness to the OBX. Master brewer Scott Meyer, a national and international gold medalist, oversees the brewing process and is available to share his expertise. The bar and brewery feature innovative, award-winning beers that cater to all palates. Designed by architect Ben Cahoon, the building resembles a turn-of-the-century lifesaving station, complete with a bar shaped like a lifesaving boat ready to deploy.
