Known as one of the most popular OBX towns, Nags Head is the perfect place for a family vacation. With miles of pristine beaches for swimming and activities, there will never be a dull moment during your visit to the beach.
Here are some top things to do in Nags Head, NC:
Jockey's Ridge State Park
Home to the tallest natural sand dunes on the East Coast, Jockey's Ridge State Park is a popular destination for Outer Banks vacationers. Park visitors can enjoy hiking, kite flying and even hang gliding.
The panoramic views of the Roanoke Sound and the Atlantic Ocean from the top of the dunes are simply breathtaking. Visitors gather on the top of the dune at sunset to watch the sun sink into the Roanoke Sound to the west, and to the east, watch the colors of the sky over the ocean turn pinks and purples.

Jennette's Pier is the only concrete fishing pier on the Outer Banks. Extending 1,000 feet into the Atlantic Ocean, Jennette's Pier is perfect for fishing enthusiasts and sightseers alike. The pier also features educational exhibits and hosts various events throughout the year.
The original pier on this location was built in 1939, making it the first fishing pier on the Outer Banks. The wooden pier was destroyed in a storm and rebuilt as a state-owned pier operated by the North Carolina Aquariums.

The Bodie Island Lighthouse is a must-see attraction if you're visiting Nags Head. Of all the Outer Banks lighthouses, this is the most accessible to the towns of Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills and Kitty Hawk. Climb the 214 steps to the top for a stunning view of the surrounding marshland and coastline.
It's located about 15 minutes south of Nags Head on NC 12 in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, and is the third lighthouse to have been built in this location. The Bodie Island Lighthouse is open to the public for tours. The lighthouse grounds also include a museum that tells the story of the lighthouse and the Outer Banks.
